Red Bull KTM Fight Back in Barcelona to Secure P2 in the Championship

Barcelona, Spain – The final leg of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship was hosted in Barcelona following the devastating floods in Valencia meant the final race had to be moved to another track. Binder looked to cement 5th place in the Championship standings while Jack Miller had his final outing as a Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider.

The Catalan capital was blanketed in sunshine for the race on Sunday which featured a 14-corner layout. Both Red Bull KTM riders had their work cut out for them as they only managed 18th and 19th starting grid slots.

As the lights went out at the start of the 24-lap race, both riders got away well and stayed clear of any trouble. By the end of lap 1, Binder had already risen into the top 10, meanwhile his teammate, Miller, had gained ground and was running in 15th.

Both knew that grip and traction were issues they would have to manage throughout the race on what was notoriously slick Catalan asphalt. As the race and the season entered final laps, Brad fought hard and managed to snatch a few more positions as others around him struggling with grip.

It was tight at the front and the South African reached 6th, only 7-seconds behind the leader at the chequered flag. Meanwhile, Miller had also managed to climb up the order to take 13th place at the finish and 3 championship points.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing finished the year with a podium trophy for a P2 finish in the Constructors’ Championship. Binder finished the year in 5th place while Miller, who now leaves the Team, finished 14th.

Following his final race with Red Bull KTM, Jack Miller said, “I had a good start, settled in there and the tyres stayed good but I just couldn’t push much and got stuck behind some guys. We signed-off by finishing the race and putting some points on the board. I think both KTM and I wanted more but I gave my all from the first laps of testing until the last laps today. Onto the next chapter.”

Finishing 5th in the championship, Brad Binder, said, “I was happy with today’s race. I knew it was really important to get the tyre until the end so I tried not to get too carried away at the beginning. I was quite pleased; I would have liked to have been a bit further forward but coming from 18th it is hard to ask for much more. Thank you to my team. It’s been challenging this year but we always tried to make the best of every situation and to finish 5th in the championship is cool.”
