Introduction to DTM
DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) is the German Touring Car Series, which is based on low cost technical regulations and a strategy aimed at being more accessible and family orientated. The DTM touring cars are powered by low-maintenance 4.0-litre V8 engines, which cannot be changed mid-season. This clearly reduces the associated costs. Output is to be limited to approx. 470 bhp at 7,500 rpm by means of an air restrictor. 10,000 units of the production model must be produced within a twelve-month period to continue to ensure series participation. The starting field in the 2010 season consists of four-door manufacturer’s models with at least four seats and an overall length between 4.30 and 4.70 metres. In summer 2009, the DTM’s two competing manufacturers Mercedes-Benz and Audi reached an agreement with the sport’s governing body ITR e.V. and the DMSB motorsport federation to freeze all further development on their existing DTM models which are already well up to the task in hand. There are no implications for action on the track – but in this way, they hope to make considerable cost savings.DTM HISTORY
