'; ?> ANOTHER TITLE BECKONS...?

Mika Hakkinen closes the gap on championship leader Eddie Irvine to just two points after a dominant McLaren Mercedes performance at the Hungaroring, the Finn’s first victory at Hungary’s narrow, twisting circuit.

The reigning champion leads from start to finish, but team-mate David Coulthard inherits second place after a handling error from Irvine which sends the Ferrari driver sliding off the track just 13 laps from the end of the race.

Coulthard had slipped down to fifth earlier in the Grand Prix, but an efficient pit stop meant he was able to rejoin ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella’s Benetton and Heinz-Harald Frentzen’s Jordan, before putting the pressure on Irvine and claiming another one-two finish which gives Hakkinen a clear sight of a second successive championship title.
