Fernando Alonso keeps his title hopes alive with a win in the pouring rain at the Nurburgring. The race begins under dry conditions, but within moments a torrential downpour causes several cars to spin off, including Lewis Hamilton.
Markus Winkelhock of Spyker gambles on wet tyres from the start, and leads by 33 seconds before the race is red flagged on lap 4. From the restart, Felipe Massa overtakes the surprise leader but another downpour allows Alonso to close in on the Ferrari.
With just five laps remaining, the Spaniard takes the lead with a bold move which gives him the win, narrowing the gap with championship leader Hamilton to just two points.
